I’m having a very Flashdance kind of day today. I registered for a welding class at OTC which begins in a couple of weeks. I’ve been wanting to learn to weld for a couple of years now and the opportunity arose recently. My friend Sarah is taking it with me.
Now I just have to find some scissors to cut up my sweatshirts…

Why do you need to cut up your sweatshirts? Burl thinks it’s great that you’re taking this class - he’s a “Welding Nerd” and now you guys can talk welding talk - whatever that is. I’m just jealous - I want to take a fun class but right now don’t want to take the time (notice I didn’t say I don’t have the time because I could make time if it was really important!)

Mom, you’re showing your nerd side. Cutting up a sweatshirt is in reference to the movie Flashdance. The main character was a female welder who danced on the side. She wore cut up sweatshirts for dancing which spawned the fashion craze of the 80s.

…there’s a railing on my apt building steps that could use some repair…do you do freelance welding?

Well, I just don’t know about freelancing. Ask me in a month when I’ve completed the first class.

How weird is this? I search for flashdance sweatshirt since I’m going to an 80’s party, find your comment immediately, and I live in Nixa, MO. I guess it’s a small cyberworld too!! Best wishes with the welding class!!

You cut out the neck and cut off the arms. It was the thing to do in the ’80s.
