Spring means beautiful flowers, winter’s thaw and lovely new fashions. However, it also means some ugliness. Take this latest trend for example. Ick! I love my jeans and I love finding new ways to wear denim, but this is one trend I’ll be bypassing. What do you think?

Yesterday I attended church for the first time since Christmas. I have officially become what my mom calls a “C & E,” someone who only attends church at Christmas and Easter. I wasn’t always like this; at one time I attended church regularly and even went to Sunday School. The problem is that, as churches became more “hip” with their contemporary services and power point presentations, I became less interested in attending. While I love keeping up with current trends, I like my religion to stay old fashioned and grounded. Give me a hymnal, a simple pew and a preacher without a microphone and I’m happy. I just don’t understand, or even like, modern organized religion. Some might argue that this makes me an unholy person or someone influenced by Satan, but I know I’m a spiritual person and don’t need to prove it by showing up somewhere every Sunday morning.
My favorite part of attending my mom’s church is the architecture of the sanctuary. I spend my time admiring the stained glass and stonework that incorporates all the mid-century modern design that I love. I don’t like the power point presentations, the contemporary songs and the messages that are sometimes mixed with politics. But this isn’t my church. I arrive as a guest and, as a guest, I will graciously thank them for inviting me and attend the next time an invitation is made. After all, sometimes being in church is more about being with family than it is being with God.

Dammit! Spring is gone and it’s winter again. This morning I was out for my morning walk when I felt something hit my face. I thought it was some of the petals from the blossoming trees, but no, it was snowflakes. It’s all cold and windy and we’ve had lots of flurries today. This is why I never plant flowers outside until after May 1. Only here in Springfield can we go from air conditioning to heating within a 24 hour period.
Happy Easter everyone! I’ll be making my twice yearly appearance in church on Sunday. Hope the roof doesn’t cave in.

Here’s my latest project/obsession that is due today. The project was to use fold forming as the main design of the piece. It could be either a piece of jewelry or an object. Why I chose to make this bowl, I have no idea. This is the largest thing I’ve ever made. It’s about 7″ in diameter and stands about 6″ tall (maybe taller with the wheels). The wheels do work, but not well. Think of them as the gimpy shopping cart you always seem to get at the grocery store. This particular piece was not without its problems. I had the whole thing done and ready to set the CZs when one of the wheels fell off. In attempting to resolder it, I melted it. Oh well, no pain no gain.
Here’s the finished piece and a close up of the CZs.

Here’s the poor little wheel that I destroyed trying to solder it back on to the bottom!

Is it just me or has spring suddenly given way to summer? This morning, while drinking coffee on my porch swing, I realized I was scratching my first mosquito bite of the season. What?! A mosquito bite in early April?! This global warming thing must stop. Seriously.

Congratulations to friends Alex and Miriam who welcomed twins Addison and Jasmine into the world today. The girls are healthy and beautiful - weighing in at over 6 and 7 pounds respectively. I’m sure Miriam will enjoy getting some sleep tonight since it’s the last she’ll have for a while.
